South Florida Peacock Bass Fishing

jeff-noah-3-14-09-007It’s time for South Florida Peacock Bass fishing now that the water is heating up. We boated 7 nice peacocks up to 5 lbs. on March 14th. We’ve been waiting for this time for awhile. The cold fronts have been keeping the water colder than normal. The Everglades for largemouth bass is also getting better now that the spawn should be complete. greico-ii-3-10-09-005

Bass fishing in the South Florida everglades is getting better each week. Over the last few weeks we’ve been catching upwards of 50 to 60 fish per half day trip and over 100 bass on full day trips. Most bass are on the small side except for Mike Greico’s 8 lb. caught on Tuesday March 10, 2009. Mike biggest bass in his 67 year carrer as a bass fisherman. South Florida Bass Fishing

victor-cole-chuck-12-9-08-001Bass fishing in the winter and spring in South Florida is usually slow because of hot water and high levels. Over the last few weeks it’s been totally the opposite. Me and my guide Capt. Victor Cole have been out in the Everglades quite a few times over the last month and continue to catch impressive numbers of largemouth bass. Size has been small mostly but on each trip we’ve managed a few fish to at least 4 to 5 lbs. As 2009 approaches I’m assuming the bass fishing is only going to improve dramatically. We normally have to wait until March before the fishing is improves. South Florida Peacock Bass Fishing

tim-heather-gray-11-24-08-006Yesterday we fished with Tim & Heather Gray in Miami and they boated 7 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. Heather landed the largest fish of the day at 4 lbs. The water has cooled down somewhat slowing the bite until the water warms up a few degrees. Each week is different during the winter so we have to deal with these conditions until we have steady weather. South Florida offers fishing year round for largemouth and peacocks from West Palm Beach all the way South to Miami. Lake Okeechobee and the South Florida Everglades offer some of the finest bass fishing in the world. Peacock Bass can only be caught in South Florida and Hawaii unless you can afford a trip to Brazil. Jim landed 13 peacock bass up to 4 3/4 lbs. all on shiners. The best time to fish South Florida is usually from March through July for both species. E-mail us at floridafishing@bellsouth.net or call us to book a guided trip at (954) 445-1811.

victor-chuck-11-12-08-003Everglades bass fishing should be improving now that the water levels will be lowered. Yesterday we fished the Holy Land wildlife refuge of the South Florida Everglades. The new facilities and ramp are brand new which makes a nice new area to fish in the Everglades. Capt. Victor Cole and I boated about 20 bass up to 5 1/2 lbs. South Florida Peacock Bass 7-24-08

South Florida peacock bass fishing is still good this week. Ed Cohn and I were out on a guide trip on Thursday and we boated 13 fish for a half-day trip. Earlier in the week Luis Rojas and I boated 22 peacock bass up to 6 lbs. Ed’s biggest for the day was 4 1/4 lbs. all caught on small live shiners. It’s still good fishing despite of heavy showers lately which usually means dirty water from all the pumping. For information e-mail me at floridafishing@bellsouth.net or call at (954) 445-1811.

South Florida Peacock Bass 7-22-08

Today Luis Rojas and I fishing Miami for Peacock Bass and boated 22 fish up to 6 lbs. It’s been great in July which is unusual for this heavy rainy season. It’s so hot and humid the peacocks usually scatter and are more difficult to locate because they roam and school. We’ve getting big fish still sitting in shallow water. Luis caught this beauty today which weighed 6 lbs. even. About a week ago we landed one over 7 lbs!
